The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has inaugurated its Delta State Committee with a mission to unseat President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in the 2027 general elections.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, announced the inauguration on Wednesday in Asaba, Delta State’s capital. He said the move was aimed at establishing party offices at the state, local government, ward, and unit levels, while promoting awareness and sensitisation campaigns to familiarise the public with ADC.
Abdullahi said, “The problem Nigeria faces today stems from the politics we have played over the years. To set the country on a new trajectory, politics must work for the people. ADC is committed to justice, equity, and transparency—values that have been missing in Nigerian politics.”
He added, “During my visit to Delta years ago as a federal minister, I noticed little had changed. Delta is one of Nigeria’s most resourced states, yet the government has not delivered for the people. ADC will ensure that whoever is elected on its platform works to improve lives.”
Abdullahi further questioned the performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State over the past two and a half years, suggesting that ADC is the only viable alternative.
He also highlighted ADC’s role as the remaining credible opposition party in Nigeria, describing its mission as not only political but also a national rescue effort to provide ordinary Nigerians with a platform to participate meaningfully in governance.
Earlier, ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, represented by Mr Babachir Lawal, outlined the party’s expectations for the newly inaugurated Transition Management Committee. He emphasised adherence to the ADC Constitution and operational guidelines, while warning against corruption, ticket-trading, manipulation of primaries, and other malpractices common in other parties.
Mark commended Delta leaders for their commitment to ADC and urged members to support the national leadership in strengthening party structures across the state.
In his remarks, National Vice Chairman (South-South), Usani Uguru Usani, encouraged ADC members in the Niger Delta to stand firm and not be deterred by past political experiences.
Those inaugurated into the committee include Chief Great Ogboru, former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2023 elections, and Dcn. Kennedy Pela, among others.
