Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have foiled an attempted infiltration by terrorists into the Bitta area of Borno State, killing several insurgents during an early-morning operation.
According to the Nigerian Army, the incident occurred at about 12:30am on Thursday when troops detected insurgents advancing from the Mandara Mountains using advanced surveillance systems.
The troops engaged the terrorists after allowing them into effective range, resulting in the neutralization of several fighters, including a senior commander and his cameraman. Airstrikes were later carried out on fleeing elements by the Air Component of the operation.
Weapons and logistics recovered included AK-47 rifles, magazines, radios, camcorders, mobile phones, machine guns, ammunition, motorcycles and bicycles.
The military said further searches revealed blood trails and shallow graves, indicating additional casualties, reaffirming its commitment to restoring peace in the North-East.
