Vice President Kashim Shettima, speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee meeting on Friday, declared that any challenge to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 would be, in his assessment, an act of political futility.
Addressing party leadership at the State House Conference Centre, Shettima framed the upcoming electoral contest as a foregone conclusion, barring what he described as a “suicidal” challenge by an opponent.
“Only someone hell-bent on a suicidal path or an outright imposter can dare to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Shettima stated, while acknowledging the democratic right to contest. He emphasized that electoral success is not determined by online discourse.
“Elections are not won by noise or nostalgia,” he continued. “They are not conducted, to borrow the words of Governor Uba Sani, on Facebook or Twitter. They are won by coalitions, credibility, and conviction.”
The Vice President positioned the administration’s experience as its primary asset, suggesting the next election is a matter of duty rather than uncertainty.
“With the experience of our President as our shield, and the lessons of the past as our guide, 2027 is not a gamble; it is a responsibility,” Shettima told the assembly. “By the grace of God, we shall have a renewable blessing.”
The remarks, delivered during a closed-door party strategy session, offer a glimpse into the APC’s confident internal posture nearly three years before the next general election, while dismissing the influence of social media platforms on electoral outcomes.
