Nigerian Fighters Shine in Pretoria as PFL Heads to Lagos

Nigerian MMA prospects David Samuel and Juliet Ukah secured impressive victories at the Professional Fighters League (PFL) event in Pretoria, South Africa. Samuel dominated his welterweight tournament bout, stopping Abdelrahman Mohammad with a first-round submission after showcasing sharp striking. Ukah, a Police Corporal known as “Golden Bones,” maintained her unbeaten record by earning a split decision victory over compatriot Jane Osigwe in a technical catchweight showdown.

The event served as a prelude to a larger milestone for the promotion. PFL Africa officially confirmed its first-ever event in Nigeria, scheduled for June 13, 2026, at the Eko Convention Center in Lagos. Billed as the largest MMA event in West African history, the card will feature the opening rounds of the PFL Africa bantamweight and lightweight tournaments.

The Lagos main event features Nigerian featherweight standout Wasi Adeshina. The reigning 2025 PFL Africa Champion returns home to headline against Spanish fighter Ignacio Campos. The co-main event promises equally intense action as Nigeria’s Patrick Ocheme takes on Cameroonian contender Octave Ayinda in a lightweight tournament opener.

These bouts mark a strategic expansion for the PFL. The league aims to leverage Nigeria’s growing fighting talent and passionate fan base to cement its presence in the region. Broadcasts will reach over 170 countries, placing West African athletes on an unparalleled global stage. Preparations at the Eko Arena indicate a high-profile spectacle for the local audience.

The Pretoria results also set the stage for the upcoming tournament semi-finals. Rivaldo Pereira, who stopped Nigeria’s Kunle Lawal in the first round, now advances to face David Samuel. Both fighters enter the next bracket as two of the tournament’s most lethal finishers.
