Pistol Trail Leads to Two Arrests in ASP Nuhu Killing Case

Two suspects, including the Bayelsa State individual who allegedly dispatched the barretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition at the centre of the controversy, have been arrested by Police in connection with the extrajudicial killing of 28 year old Oghenemine Ogidi by Assistant Superintendent of Police Nuhu Usman in Effurun, Delta State.

A source familiar with the development confirmed that both suspects were moved into the Effurun Area Command under the Delta State Police Command on Wednesday night, as investigators press on in their efforts to account for every person involved in the movement of the firearm and the circumstances surrounding Mine’s death.

According to the source, who spoke to Vanguard, one of the two persons in custody is identified as the individual who dispatched the pistol through a commercial transport line from Yenagoa in Bayelsa State to Effurun. From there, Ogidi, popularly known as Mine, reportedly collected the parcel with the intention of delivering it to its owner in Sapele. He was apprehended at the Effurun Motor Park before he could complete the delivery.

“It’s confirmed. They just brought in two suspects Wednesday night. It’s not been announced who is who yet, but I can tell you for free that one of them is the person who sent the gun through a transport line from Yenagoa to Effurun, from where Mine picked it to send to a Sapele owner at the Effurun Motor Park where he was caught and extrajudicially killed by ASP Nuhu and accomplices,” the source stated.

The Delta State Police Command has not issued any official statement confirming the arrests or identifying the suspects, maintaining silence on the matter even as public outrage continues to mount over Mine’s death.

Ogidi’s killing has attracted widespread condemnation, with the circumstances surrounding his death raising serious questions about the conduct of the officer involved and others present at the scene. The deceased, who was 28 years old at the time of his death, was at the motor park when he was confronted, and accounts indicate he did not survive the encounter with ASP Nuhu Usman and those described as his accomplices.

Investigators are said to be working to establish the full chain of custody of the weapon, tracing its origins, movement, and everyone connected to its transportation across state lines into Delta.

The case has drawn the attention of human rights observers and members of the public who have called for full accountability and justice for the deceased. Whether further arrests will follow as investigations deepen remains an open question, but the development signals that authorities are making active moves in a case that has unsettled communities across Effurun and beyond.
