Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), has received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for 13 undergraduate programmes spanning four major colleges, further strengthening its reputation as one of Nigeria’s top-ranking institutions.

The university’s Director of Public Affairs, Tunde Olofintila, announced the development in a statement released on Tuesday, revealing that the accreditation followed a rigorous evaluation by the NUC and was formally communicated in a letter dated April 30, 2024, addressed to the university’s Founder and Chancellor, Chief Afe Babalola.

The newly accredited programmes include: College of Engineering: Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering. College of Medicine and Health Sciences: Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry. College of Sciences: Industrial Chemistry, Agriculture. College of Social and Management Sciences: Intelligence and Security Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, Political Science.

Chief Afe Babalola hailed the accreditation as “another milestone in the history of our university,” noting that ABUAD’s consistent top rankings globally and locally underscore the institution’s dedication to excellence.

“We started well. We are doing very well,” Babalola said. “Our ratings—No. 1 in the world in SDG 7, Outreach, and Stewardship; and No. 1 in Nigeria for three consecutive years—are further confirmation that we have overshot our expectations.”
The acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olasupo Ijabadeniyi, also lauded the announcement, describing the achievement as timely and significant.

“That this recognition is coming from the NUC while we are still celebrating our latest global ranking speaks volumes,” he said. “It confirms the depth of quality in our programmes and reflects the future-focused vision guiding ABUAD.”

Founded in 2009, ABUAD has steadily emerged as a leader in private university education in Nigeria. The institution’s latest achievement is expected to boost the confidence of students, parents, and stakeholders, while reinforcing its position at the forefront of innovation and academic integrity.
