The by-election for the Ganye Constituency seat in the Adamawa State House of Assembly concluded peacefully on Saturday, with voters turning out in impressive numbers to elect a new representative following the death of former lawmaker Abdulmalik Jauro in May 2024.
Accreditation and voting commenced at 8:30 AM across polling units in Ganye Local Government Area, with the exercise officially ending at 2:30 PM. However, electoral officials confirmed that voters already on the queue by the closing time were allowed to cast their ballots, in line with INEC guidelines.

Ahmed Mohammed, noted that Security personnel were visibly present at all polling units, ensuring order and compliance with electoral regulations. The election saw participation from only two major political parties the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) he added.
“Despite the generally peaceful atmosphere, minor technical issues were reported in two polling units where Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines malfunctioned. INEC officials swiftly resolved the problems, allowing voting to proceed without significant disruption”.

The by-election was necessitated by the death of Hon. Abdulmalik Jauro (APC), who served as the Deputy Minority Leader in the Adamawa State House of Assembly. His passing created a vacancy that both parties are eager to fill, with each claiming dominance in the constituency.
Residents of Ganye expressed satisfaction with the process, hoping the outcome would reflect the will of the people. The winner of the by-election will complete the tenure of the late lawmaker, representing the constituency in the state legislature.
