Adeleke Vows Infrastructure Overhaul Across Osun, Urges Nigerians to Embrace Cultural Unity

The Journal Nigeria May 26, 2025

Ola Akinwunmi

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revamping public infrastructure across the state, pledging not to relent until Osun ranks first in the nation’s infrastructure development.

Speaking through the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, Adeleke made the promise while receiving the Most Impactful Governor of the Year in Infrastructure award from City People in Osogbo. The governor highlighted achievements in transport, education, healthcare, agriculture, and other key sectors, describing the state’s development agenda as “broad-based and people-centered.”

“Our mission is clear—to bridge the infrastructure gap we inherited and ensure even development across local governments, towns, and cities,” Adeleke said in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed. “Osun State under our watch is getting upgraded infrastructure in transport, education, health, agriculture, water, power, digital economy, among others. We will not stop until Osun attains the number one position on the infrastructure rating.”

The governor’s remarks come as his administration accelerates the completion of both ongoing and newly initiated projects, earning praise for spreading development efforts across both urban and rural communities.

Meanwhile, in a separate engagement abroad, Adeleke also weighed in on diaspora policy while addressing participants at the Cultural Hangout Festival in London, held in honor of Africa Day. Represented by Soji Adewusi, he called for a cultural and economic rethink among Africans in the diaspora, urging the adoption of successful models seen in Asian, Indian, and Arab communities abroad.

“African migrants must learn from the tightly-knit diaspora networks of Indians, Arabs, and Pakistanis, who maintain deep cultural roots while achieving economic success,” he said. “Their unity, cultural retention, and strategic community building are essential tools we can adapt to uplift African diaspora communities.”

Adeleke emphasized that leveraging culture as a tool for empowerment, rather than abandoning it, could redefine how African diaspora communities engage with their heritage and homelands.

The governor’s twin messages—one focused on domestic transformation and the other on global cultural engagement—reflect an administration striving to blend grassroots development with global relevance.
