Following Nigeria’s dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Morocco in the WAFCON 2024 final, individual brilliance was also recognized as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the tournament’s top awards.
Rasheedat Ajibade, Nigeria’s influential forward and captain, was crowned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament. Ajibade played a pivotal role in leading the Super Falcons to their 10th WAFCON title, inspiring her teammates with goals, assists, and relentless leadership throughout the competition.
Morocco’s star striker, Ghizlane Chebbak, claimed the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top goal scorer. Her early strike in the final took her tally to the top of the chart, solidifying her status as one of the continent’s most clinical forwards.
Chiamaka Nnadozie, Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper, was named Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament, thanks to a series of outstanding performances between the posts. She was instrumental in keeping Nigeria unbeaten throughout the tournament, making crucial saves in both group and knockout stages.
Another big win for Nigeria was the emergence of Coach Justine Madugu as Coach of the Tournament.
The awards round off what has been a historic campaign for the Super Falcons, who overcame a 2-0 deficit in the final to defeat hosts Morocco and secure a record-extending 10th title.
CAF officials praised the overall standard of play, noting the growing competitiveness and technical quality in African women’s football.
