Gunmen have assassinated a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Ejeh Udeh, at his residence in Otukpo, Benue State.
It was gathered that the attack occurred around midnight on Monday when armed men stormed his Ugboju residence and opened fire on him in front of his family.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants, who arrived on a motorcycle, laid in wait for Udeh and shot him multiple times as he entered his compound. His body was later taken to the Otukpo General Hospital morgue.
This killing adds to the growing list of politically linked assassinations in Nigeria. In August, Ibrahim Musa, a local APC youth leader in Kogi State, was gunned down in Ankpa. Earlier in July, gunmen killed Hon. Sunday Eneh, a former councillor in Enugu State, while in May, Ayodele Adisa, a PDP ward chairman in Ekiti, was shot dead by unknown assailants.
Analysts warn that such killings, often linked to local political rivalries, heighten insecurity and undermine Nigeria’s fragile democracy.
Security agencies are yet to release an official statement on Udeh’s murder, but residents of Benue have called for urgent investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice.
