Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In a letter dated July 14, 2025, addressed to his ward chairman in Jada, Adamawa State, Atiku said the party had lost its way and no longer reflected the ideals he helped build over 20 years ago.

Atiku, who was PDP’s presidential candidate in 2019 and 2023, described his decision as painful but necessary, citing irreconcilable differences. He thanked party members for their support but gave no indication of his next political move.
His resignation is expected to shake up the PDP and spark speculations about a possible new political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
