Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, was arraigned on Thursday before a Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, Ogun State. The charges stem from an alleged assault on officials of the Ota Zonal Planning Office of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. The incident occurred on February 5, 2025, when three town planning officers—Ramon Lateef, Akinpelumi Oyero, and Abidemi Onabanjo—were performing their official duties at Portable’s establishment, Odogwu Bar, located in the Iyana Ilogbo area of Ota.
According to police reports, Portable, accompanied by nine associates, allegedly attacked the officials with dangerous weapons, including cutlasses and firearms. The officials sustained injuries but managed to escape and reported the assault to the authorities. Following the incident, the Ogun State Police Command issued multiple invitations to Portable to appear at their headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta. After he failed to comply, a court order was obtained declaring him wanted.
Portable subsequently surrendered himself to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba, Lagos.
During the court proceedings, Portable and his nine associates faced multiple charges, including assault, obstruction, possession of dangerous weapons, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. All defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Presiding Magistrate O.M. Somefun granted each defendant bail in the sum of ₦5 million, with sureties who are licensed bondsmen registered with the Ogun State Government.
The case has been adjourned until March 17, 2025, for further hearing. The Ogun State Government has condemned the alleged actions of Portable, describing him as a “serial dissident.”
