The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, demanding the refund of allegedly diverted workers’ funds from the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) and the immediate constitution of the Governing Board of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM). The NLC warned that failure to comply will result in a nationwide strike.
The resolution was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the NLC Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, in Abuja and obtained by newsmen on Thursday. The meeting, chaired by NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero, extensively reviewed issues affecting Nigerian workers, the trade union movement, and national labour matters.
The NLC’s action highlights ongoing concerns over workers’ pension security and the need for stronger governance of social insurance funds. Workers and unions are now awaiting the government’s response within the seven-day notice period, with industrial action looming should demands not be met.
