The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, on Friday visited troops wounded in action and receiving treatment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna.
The visit, disclosed in a statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele, formed part of the COAS’ maiden operational tour of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Area of Responsibility.
According to the statement, Shaibu commended the injured personnel for their courage and sacrifice, assuring them of the Army’s unwavering commitment to providing adequate medical care and support for their full recovery.
Drawing from personal experience, the COAS recalled being admitted to the same facility after sustaining injuries in action, noting that he understands the challenges wounded soldiers face. He expressed confidence in the hospital’s standards and management, assuring the troops that they would receive optimal medical attention.
Shaibu urged them to adhere to their prescribed treatment regimens and reiterated his commitment to improving the welfare of personnel and their families in line with his renewed leadership drive.
The COAS, accompanied by principal staff officers from Army Headquarters, also inspected hospital facilities to assess ongoing developments and improvements. He later visited Headquarters Sub-Sector 4, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, along the Kaduna–Abuja Highway, where he interacted with troops and evaluated their operational readiness and morale.
