Davido Loses ₦75 Million After Super Eagles Fall To Morocco

Nigerian music superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has lost an estimated ₦75 million after the Super Eagles failed to defeat host nation Morocco in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The loss followed a high-stakes $50,000 bet placed by the singer ahead of Wednesday night’s clash at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Before kickoff, Davido had taken to his verified X (formerly Twitter) account to share a screenshot of his betting slip, revealing that he staked $50,000 on Nigeria to beat Morocco, with both teams expected to score.

In his post, the award-winning artiste confidently wrote, “Nigeria to make the finals and I’ll double my stake on my slip.”

The much-anticipated semi-final encounter ended in a tense 0–0 draw after regulation and extra time, with both sides failing to find the back of the net. Morocco, however, held their nerve in the penalty shootout, defeating Nigeria 4–2 to book a place in the AFCON final.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles saw their hopes dashed when two penalties were missed, allowing the Atlas Lions to advance in front of their home supporters.

With the outcome, Davido’s prediction fell short, costing him the entire $50,000 stake — estimated at about ₦72 million to ₦75 million based on current exchange rates.

Had the bet succeeded, the singer would have walked away with winnings exceeding $348,000, equivalent to more than ₦500 million.

The development quickly sparked reactions on social media, with fans and football lovers commenting on the risks of high-stakes betting and the emotional weight of Nigeria’s AFCON exit.

Despite the loss, Davido is yet to publicly react further following the conclusion of the match.
