A gunman opened fire at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday morning, killing at least one person and injuring two others before turning the weapon on himself.
The attack, which occurred around 6:40 a.m. local time, saw the shooter open fire from a nearby building toward the ICE facility. Authorities confirmed that the gunman later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police and emergency services rushed to the scene as the attack disrupted traffic and forced a security lockdown around the area. Witnesses reported chaos as officers secured the perimeter of the federal building.
Officials stated that the victims included individuals inside the facility, believed to be ICE detainees rather than immigration officers. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were transported to a nearby hospital. Later reports indicated that at least one more person died from injuries sustained in the attack.
No ICE officers were reported injured in the incident. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and authorities say investigations are ongoing.
The Dallas facility serves primarily as a processing center for immigration cases rather than a long-term detention site. The attack comes amid heightened tensions surrounding immigration enforcement in Texas and follows earlier threats and incidents targeting ICE facilities this year.
Federal and local law enforcement agencies are expected to release further details as the investigation develops.
