The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday charged troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) to intensify efforts toward defeating terrorism as he embarked on an operational assessment visit to Maiduguri, Borno State.
In a statement by the Media Information Officer, JTF Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the COAS urged troops to remain vigilant, sustain an aggressive posture and avoid complacency in the ongoing counterterrorism operations across the North-East.
During his visit to the headquarters of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, the COAS assessed the security situation, evaluated ongoing operations and met with commanders to strengthen inter-agency coordination and intelligence sharing.
“The COAS emphasised the need for continued operational aggressiveness to deny terrorists freedom of action across the theatre,” the statement noted.
The Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, briefed the Army chief on recent activities, achievements and operational challenges in the field.
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, who received the COAS, congratulated him on his appointment as the 25th Chief of Army Staff and commended his longstanding contributions to reducing insurgency in the region. Zulum expressed confidence in the troops and urged them to remain resolute despite isolated incidents.
Responding to the governor, the COAS reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to intensifying military operations and working closely with Borno State to restore lasting peace and normalcy to the state and the wider North-East.
