Veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant, Dele Momodu, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing the party of being hijacked by “antidemocratic forces.”
In a resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu said his decision takes immediate effect.
“Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight,” the letter stated.
Describing PDP as a “carcass,” Momodu said it was honorable to leave and join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he referred to as part of a “new coalition party.”
Momodu, who vied for PDP’s presidential ticket in the 2023 general elections, thanked members who supported him during his stay.
His exit comes amid a series of defections rocking the PDP, as many members accuse the party of internal imposition and lack of democracy.
Momodu’s resignation comes just a day after the resignation of his strong ally and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the PDP was made public.
