Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s lack of effectiveness and failure to inspire credible governance.
In a resignation letter dated July 4, 2025, and shared via his official X handle on Thursday, Melaye addressed his ward chairman in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, confirming his immediate withdrawal from all levels of party participation.
“I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement,” the letter stated.
According to the former lawmaker, his decision follows months of introspection and growing disappointment with the PDP’s inability to present itself as a viable alternative in Nigeria’s political landscape.
“This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation,” he wrote.
Melaye, who served as the PDP’s candidate in the 2023 Kogi State governorship election, expressed disillusionment with the party’s trajectory and internal dynamics.
“Having carefully reflected on the state of the party, I can no longer in good conscience participate in the activities of the party or lend my support to her agenda,” he added.
He concluded by requesting that his resignation be taken as a full and final withdrawal from all structures and activities of the PDP, while thanking the party for the opportunity to serve under its platform.
The development marks a significant political shift, raising questions about Melaye’s next move amid a turbulent national opposition landscape.
