The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Ayomide Oluwadamilare, for allegedly murdering his former employer, Kola Adun, and attempting to sell the deceased’s vehicle in Lagos.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, the shocking crime came to light after residents of River Valley Estate in Ojodu Berger, Lagos, alerted police to a foul odour emanating from the victim’s apartment.
“At about 1300hrs on July 7, 2025, the Divisional Police Officer of Ojodu Abiodun Division received a distress call from Mubarak area in Akute, Ogun State, concerning a disturbing smell from a building,” the statement said.
Police officers proceeded to Ogunmoyero Street, where they forced entry into the premises and discovered the decomposing body of Mr. Kola Adun on the first floor. The corpse, Odutola confirmed, bore multiple stab wounds, with visible bloodstains found at the scene.
According to the police, the alarm was first raised on Sunday, when a friend of the deceased, who was scheduled to pick him up for church service, found the gate locked from the outside and was unable to reach him by phone. Adun’s phone later went off completely, prompting concerns from family and friends, and eventually, a police report.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Oluwadamilare, the deceased’s former driver, had allegedly broken into the apartment on Saturday, stabbed Mr. Adun to death, and fled with his Toyota Camry—registration number AAA 193 GC.
The breakthrough in the case came when the suspect attempted to sell the stolen car to a dealer in the Ijede area of Ikorodu, Lagos. The car dealer, suspicious of the driver’s inconsistent story and lacking proper documentation, quickly alerted authorities.
“The suspect was arrested at the point of sale,” Odutola confirmed. “He is currently in custody and cooperating with investigators.”
The deceased’s remains have been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu for autopsy, while the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta has taken over the case for deeper investigation and eventual prosecution.
While the motive for the killing is still under investigation, the brutal nature of the crime and the apparent betrayal of trust have shocked many in the community.
Residents of River Valley Estate and those close to the victim described Mr. Adun as a quiet and generous man, whose tragic end has left a deep sense of loss and fear.
The police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activity to local law enforcement immediately.
