At least eight people were injured on Monday afternoon in a serious crash involving a commercial bus, popularly called a “Danfo,” and a Toyota Camry on Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge. The incident occurred around 1:00 p.m., just before the Adekunle Junction, heading inward Lagos Island.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the Danfo, believed to be speeding, rammed into the rear of a Toyota Camry. The impact reportedly caused the bus to lose control and somersault multiple times, leaving passengers screaming in panic and prompting bystanders to rush to the scene in a desperate effort to rescue the injured.

According to sources, the crash resulted in injuries to at least eight individuals, including the driver of the Camry and several passengers inside the bus. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported. Emergency services, including the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS), officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and personnel from the state’s Fire and Rescue Service, responded swiftly to the scene.
The emergency teams worked in coordination to evacuate the injured victims to nearby hospitals and clear the wreckage to prevent total gridlock on what is considered Lagos’ busiest expressway. By 3:30 p.m., normal traffic flow had been restored.

This latest incident adds to a troubling pattern of avoidable crashes on the Third Mainland Bridge, particularly during peak hours and under poor driving conditions. Authorities have reiterated their call for drivers to exercise caution and obey traffic regulations to avoid further tragedies on Lagos roads.
Traffic officials say investigations into the exact cause of the crash are ongoing, although initial findings point to speeding and reckless driving. The identities of the drivers involved have yet to be disclosed.
The Lagos State Government, through its traffic and emergency agencies, is expected to release a full statement once assessments and interviews with survivors are complete.
