Mr Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector General of Police gave a warning to all Police Officers across the country against the use of force on peaceful protesters.
The IGP stated that there is the fundamental right of freedom of expression, assembly and movement and the citizens are allowed to take part in it. He said the police are to uphold and protect the citizens’ right.
However, he appealed to protesters to comport themselves. He said that the protest should be done peacefully. He warned them to guard their ranks against infiltration by criminals.
He said that the Force leaders have heard the voice of the people and they are totally committed to the people.
He further stated that progress is being made to address the observed ills, punish any offending officers and promote a people-friendly police force.
