Renowned Nigerian evangelist and spiritual leader of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, has passed away at the age of 80.
His family confirmed the news in a statement on Monday, revealing that the revered preacher died on October 6, 2025, describing his passing as a “glorious transition” from a life of devoted service to eternal rest.
Widely regarded as a spiritual general and a foundational figure in Nigeria’s evangelical movement, Ukpai dedicated more than six decades to the preaching of the gospel, dynamic Bible teaching, and prophetic demonstrations of God’s power.
“He was a faithful soldier of the cross who devoted his life to spreading the gospel with passion and integrity.
His teachings, prophetic insights, and mentorship have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire believers for generations,” the family said.
Throughout his ministry, Rev. Ukpai’s evangelistic campaigns and revival meetings drew massive crowds across Nigeria and beyond, touching millions of lives and transforming communities through faith and compassion.
Beyond the pulpit, he was celebrated as a loving husband, devoted father, and mentor to countless ministers and believers who regarded him as a guiding light in their spiritual journey.
The family expressed gratitude for his life and legacy, noting that while they deeply mourn his physical absence, they rejoice that he has “finished his race and is now resting in eternal praise.”
They added that details of his burial arrangements would be announced later.
Over the years, Ukpai’s ministry expanded to include churches, educational institutions, and humanitarian projects that have positively impacted lives across Africa and the world. His life, they said, exemplified the biblical truth in Philippians 1:21 — “To live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai’s passing marks the end of an enigma, but his spiritual and social legacy continue to shine as a beacon of faith, service, and purpose.
