Former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, on Wednesday reported to the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.
Kyari, who arrived at about 2:15 p.m., was invited by the anti-graft agency to answer questions relating to financial and technical decisions taken during his tenure as head of the national oil company.
The former NNPCL boss is under investigation over the controversial $7.2 billion refineries’ turnaround maintenance project, which the EFCC says is riddled with alleged fraud.
Last week, the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered a temporary freezing of four bank accounts linked to Kyari pending further investigations.
EFCC sources confirmed that Wednesday’s session is part of ongoing efforts to unravel financial transactions tied to the NNPCL during Kyari’s leadership.
The Commission is yet to release an official statement on the outcome of the interrogation as of press time.
