Nigeria’s former Minister of Education, Mrs Obiageli Ezekwesili, has been appointed as an Advisor to Club de Madrid, an international forum comprising democratic former Presidents and Prime Ministers.

Ezekwesili announced the appointment via a post on her X handle on Tuesday, noting that she had accepted the invitation to join the advisory group of the organisation.

Describing Club de Madrid as “the world’s largest forum of democratic former Presidents and Prime Ministers,” Ezekwesili said the forum aims to use its members’ leadership experience and global networks to promote inclusive democratic practices and improve global well-being.

“I accepted the invitation to become an Advisor to @ClubdeMadrid – Club de Madrid, ‘the world’s largest forum of democratic former Presidents and Prime Ministers, who leverage their individual and collective leadership experience and global reach to strengthen inclusive democratic practice and improve the well-being of people around the world,” Ezekwesili said in the post.

She added that the evolving global context requires more proactive leadership and collaboration to address widespread challenges.

“As our global context becomes even more complex, the leadership vacuum delays solutions to ‘global public Bads’.

“I therefore deeply appreciate how these former leaders of democracies around the world continue to dedicate themselves to helping solve our global challenges and amplify opportunities for cooperation.

“Delighted to support.”

Club de Madrid engages in dialogue and policy development on issues relating to democratic governance, social inclusion, and international cooperation.
