Celebrity chef Hilda Baci on Friday commenced her attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice at the Eko Hotel Car Park B in Lagos.
The event, which was initially scheduled to hold at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, was moved to the new venue to better accommodate the large crowd expected. Organisers said the change was necessary for safety, comfort, and capacity reasons.

According to reports, over 20,000 people registered to attend the attempt, which has drawn food lovers, celebrities, cultural enthusiasts, and members of the media. The Guinness World Records has confirmed recognition of the attempt.
Baci is using about 250 bags of rice for the cooking, which will take place in a specially designed pot measuring over 22,000 litres in capacity. The pot, already washed and prepared for use, is expected to be filled to 80% during the cooking.
The Journal Nigeria Correspondent, who is currently at the venue, described the atmosphere as festive, with live entertainment, cultural showcases, and food exhibitions accompanying the main event. The Lead Pastor of Harvesters International Christian Centre, Bolaji Idowu, offered prayers for Baci and her team before the cooking began.
The attempt is seen not only as a record-breaking feat but also as a cultural celebration showcasing Nigerian cuisine on the global stage.
