Reactions have continued to pour in over the sudden death of Akin Olowokere, Assistant Coach of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Ibadan, Oyo State. Olowokere reportedly slumped in the early hours of Monday and later died.
In separate interviews with The Journal Nigeria, fans expressed shock and grief, praying for God’s comfort for his family, the state government, and the 3SC team.
Mr. Adejuwon Adebayo described the incident as “terribly sad” and prayed for the repose of Olowokere’s soul. “To both his immediate family and the Shooting Stars football family, please accept our condolences,” he added.
Mr. Samson Omoakin praised the late coach as “a professional par excellence,” while Mr. Abraham Idjerhe questioned why thorough medical check-ups were not conducted before the season began, as is common in European leagues.
Mr. Ogundare Kolawole suggested that the death could be linked to an underlying medical condition, describing the situation as “serious.” Mr. Olaniyi Idowu simply referred to Olowokere as a “legend” and prayed for his soul to rest in perfect peace.
As of the time of filing this report, the management of 3SC had yet to release an official statement.
Olowokere, a former Sunshine Stars player and coach, was among the technical crew recently appointed by the Oluyole Warriors after the departure of Gbenga Ogunbote and his staff.
He collapsed while in action during a training session at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode, where the team was preparing for Matchday 2 of the 2025 ValueJet Cup. He was immediately attended to by medical personnel and later rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
