Turkish giants Fenerbahce have sensationally sacked Jose Mourinho, just a day after crashing out of the Champions League qualifiers at the hands of Benfica.
The decision comes only eight months into Mourinho’s reign in Istanbul, marking yet another turbulent chapter in the career of the 62-year-old tactician.
Despite steering Fenerbahce to a second-place finish in the Super Lig last season, Mourinho’s spell ended in disappointment. He failed to deliver silverware, falling in the Turkish Cup quarter-finals and bowing out of the Europa League round of 16 to Rangers.
This season started no better. After just two matches, elimination from Europe proved to be the final straw for the club’s hierarchy.
Mourinho, who has previously managed Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Roma, Inter Milan, and Tottenham, now faces fresh questions over his fading magic touch. Once regarded as football’s ultimate winner, the Portuguese coach departs Turkey empty-handed and under pressure to rebuild his legacy.
For Fenerbahce, the search begins immediately for a new manager capable of restoring belief and guiding them back to Europe’s elite.
