The Federal Government has raised the alarm over a fake recruitment letter currently making the rounds on social media, cautioning Nigerians—particularly job seekers—not to fall for the scam.

In an official statement released Tuesday, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) clarified that while President Bola Tinubu has approved recruitment into the four paramilitary services under its oversight, the actual recruitment process has not begun.

“The attention of the Civil Defense, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has been drawn to a letter in circulation on social media with respect to its recruitment process,” the statement, signed by the Board’s Secretary, AM Jibril, reads. “It is important to inform the general public that, though there is Presidential approval for the recruitment of personnel in the four paramilitary services under its purview, there are a series of processes which lead to the actual recruitment exercise.”

The Board stressed that any genuine recruitment announcements will be made publicly through national newspapers and official, verified platforms—never through random social media posts or unofficial channels. It also noted that no fee would be required at any stage of the recruitment process.

The Federal Government urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and disregard the fake letter, warning of a growing number of fraudulent schemes targeting desperate job seekers. “Members of the public should be wary of recruitment racketeers who may try to take advantage of unsuspecting job seekers to rob them of their hard-earned resources,” the Board stated.

Authorities are expected to investigate the source of the fraudulent letter and work to ensure those responsible are held accountable. In the meantime, the CDCFIB encourages citizens to verify all recruitment information through reputable sources and to report any suspicious activity.
