Gospel musician Mr. Goke Bajowa has described the music industry as one of the most demanding professions to venture into, stressing that it requires far more than talent to succeed.
Speaking in an interview with The Journal Nigeria, Bajowa explained that unlike other businesses where goods and services are sold, music is intangible and requires a different kind of investment.
“Music takes a lot of effort, promotion, and realistic planning,” he said. “It’s not like selling a product you can hold. Music is something people listen to; it’s abstract. That makes it harder to market and sustain.”
Bajowa advised upcoming musicians to exercise patience, endurance, and diligence if they want to make a lasting impact in the industry. “You can’t expect immediate results just because you’ve started. Many people quit along the way because they get tired or feel like giving up,” he noted.
He lamented that in Nigeria, key structures that could support the music industry—such as access to financing, promotional platforms, and proper market channels—are lacking. “There are no adequate facilities to work with, and that limits the growth of music.
Despite the challenges, Bajowa emphasized the importance of creating music that continues to resonate with audiences. “Music must keep ringing in the hearts of people,” he concluded.
