Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for approving the rehabilitation of critical road networks in the Lake Chad Basin region.
The appreciation was conveyed through a statement by Governor Buni’s Director General of Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, released from Damaturu.
Speaking during his inaugural meeting as Chairman of the Lake Chad Governors Forum in Ndjamena, Chad, Governor Buni highlighted that the approved road projects including the Dikwa-Ngala and Bama-Banki road will be executed through the Dangote Tax Credit Scheme.
In his capacity as forum chairman, Buni emphasized their dual focus on expanding reintegration initiatives and advocating for renewed international donor support, particularly for stabilization programs in Niger Republic. “These challenges transcend national borders they demand regional solutions,” Buni stated.
The governor referenced resolutions from the forum’s fifth meeting in Maiduguri, which prioritized strengthening the Multinational Joint Task Force’s operational capabilities, Advancing cross-border infrastructure development , Securing financing through specialized funding mechanisms, Addressing emerging threats including youth radicalization and environmental degradation .
Buni welcomed progress on key initiatives, including the validation of the Regional Stabilization Strategy and the launch of ecological restoration projects for Lake Chad.
“Through closer collaboration with the Lake Chad Basin Commission and federal authorities, we remain committed to the region’s stabilization,” Buni affirmed. He called for enhanced coordination in monitoring regional investments and ensuring accountability.
With the rainy season approaching, the governor stressed the urgency of joint efforts to boost security and provide agricultural support “We must leverage all available resources to boost food production and stimulate economic growth across member states.”
The statement underscores the region’s concerted push for sustainable development amid ongoing security and environmental challenges.
