Three police officers were shot dead and two others critically wounded in a gun battle in York County on Wednesday while attempting to serve a warrant linked to a domestic-related investigation.
The officers came under fire as they approached a residence in North Codorus Township. The suspect, who has not been identified, was also killed in the exchange. Authorities said the investigation stemmed from a domestic case reported the previous day.
Officials confirmed that the two wounded officers remain in critical but stable condition at a nearby hospital. The identities of the slain officers and the gunman are being withheld pending notification of families.
Governor Josh Shapiro called the incident a “devastating loss,” pledging full support to law enforcement agencies as investigations continue.
The Pennsylvania State Police and York County authorities said further details, including the motive, will be released as inquiries progress.
