The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) officially inaugurated Haruna Yahaya as its 61st president today, Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at a prestigious investiture ceremony held at the ICAN head office in Lagos. Yahaya succeeds Davidson Alaribe, who completed his tenure as the 60th president of the esteemed Institute.

The ceremony marked a significant transition for ICAN, with Yahaya stepping into a leadership role poised to guide the accounting profession in Nigeria.

In his valedictory address, immediate past president Davidson Alaribe highlighted a period of remarkable expansion for ICAN under his stewardship. He proudly announced that the Institute had significantly broadened its reach across Nigeria, establishing 26 new District Societies, with 24 of them officially inaugurated during his term. This expansion underscores ICAN’s commitment to fostering professional development and ethical practices nationwide.

The investiture attracted a distinguished array of dignitaries from both the public and private sectors, emphasizing the importance of ICAN’s role in the nation’s economic landscape. Among those present was the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the state’s Accountant-General, Dr. Abiodun Muritala. Also in attendance were the Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, Aminu Usman, and the Attorney General of Jigawa State, Abdulqadir Fanini, signifying governmental recognition of ICAN’s impact.

Further revealing the collaborative spirit within the financial sector, the event also saw the presence of Dr. Rabiu Olowo, the Executive Secretary of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria; Zuwaira Kishimi, the President of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria; and Professor Pius Olanrewaju, the President of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, among other notable personalities.

As Haruna Yahaya assumes his new role, the accounting community eagerly anticipates his vision and leadership in advancing the standards and influence of chartered accountancy in Nigeria.
