Nigerian celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, has been spotted in a trending video preparing a test batch of jollof rice in a massive custom-built pot.
The footage, which shows her surrounded by assistants and excited onlookers, is part of her build-up to an official attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.
The historic feat is scheduled for September 12, 2025, at Muri Okunola Park, Lagos, during the Gino World Jollof Festival—an event dedicated to celebrating West African food, music, and culture. Attendance will be free, with live performances to complement the record-breaking bid.
Baci, who shot to international fame after winning the 2023 Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon, described the new challenge as “more than just a record attempt.”
In a post shared on Instagram, she wrote:
“Six metres wide. Six metres tall. On September 12, we make history together. Because what is jollof without you to share it with?”
The upcoming festival is expected to draw thousands of food lovers and tourists, reinforcing Nigeria’s place at the centre of the jollof rice rivalry across West Africa.
