Iran on Tuesday accused Israel of launching fresh airstrikes on its territory even after a ceasefire agreement was announced by U.S. President Donald Trump.
A spokesman for Iran’s armed forces claimed that the Israeli military carried out three separate waves of attacks that continued into Tuesday morning, hitting undisclosed locations inside Iran. The strikes reportedly persisted until 9:00 a.m. local time (0530 GMT).
“The Zionist regime launched three waves of attacks on sites in Iranian territory until 9:00 am today,” the spokesman said during a broadcast on Iranian state television. No details were provided on the nature of the targets or whether there were casualties.
The allegation comes just hours after Trump publicly declared that both Iran and Israel had agreed to a bilateral ceasefire, raising hopes of a pause in hostilities following nearly two weeks of intense conflict. However, the Iranian military’s claim suggests that the ceasefire may not be holding on the ground.
There has been no official comment yet from the Israeli government or military on the allegations.
Tensions between Iran and Israel escalated sharply earlier this month, drawing international concern and triggering a series of diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation. The United Nations and several global powers had welcomed the U.S.-brokered ceasefire, urging both sides to exercise restraint.
This latest development throws the future of the ceasefire into doubt, and raises the possibility of renewed violence in an already volatile region.
