JAF Identifies Socialism as Panacea to Nigeria’s Woes

The Journal Nigeria May 29, 2025

Olusegun Adeyemo

The Oyo State Chapter of the Joint Action Front (JAF) has declared socialism as a viable and necessary alternative to address the socio-economic challenges facing Nigeria, asserting that the system offers the real change Nigerians have long yearned for.

Speaking at a press conference held at the ASUU-UI Secretariat, Mellanby Hall, University of Ibadan, the state chairman of JAF, Comrade Ademola Aremu, emphasized that socialism promotes justice, equity, and democratic control of the economy by working people.

“Socialism is a system founded on justice, equity, and democratic control of the economy by working people,” Aremu said. “Under socialism, Nigeria’s wealth can be properly harnessed and equitably distributed to benefit the majority, not just a privileged few.”

“We therefore call on the Nigeria masses to rise, resist and organize for the enthronement of this alternative system and to ensure that the wealth of our nation is judiciously used for the benefit of the working people and the poor”.

Comrade Aremu also criticized the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as a “catastrophic failure” for Nigerian workers, youths, and the broader population since he assumed office on May 29, 2023.

He accused the Tinubu government of implementing anti-people policies that have worsened economic hardship, increased inequality, and undermined democratic freedoms.

“Rather than addressing the needs of the people, this administration has introduced policies that have exacerbated poverty and trampled on democratic rights,” Aremu stated.

JAF reaffirmed its commitment to mobilizing Nigerians around socialist principles as a pathway toward national recovery and social justice.
