The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed former Ondo State governorship candidate, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), as the Chairman of its National Convention Screening Committee ahead of the party’s 2025 elective national convention.
The announcement was made on Saturday in Abuja by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, who chairs the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC).
According to Fintiri, the NCOC ratified Jegede’s appointment along with those of 12 other distinguished members who will screen all aspirants contesting for various national offices at the convention slated for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The screening exercise has been scheduled for Tuesday, ahead of the convention.
The committee’s leadership also includes Mohammed Diri as Deputy Chairman, Mr. Asue Ighodalo as Secretary, and Mr. Jacob Otorkpa as Deputy Secretary.
Other members are Emmanuel Enoidem, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Chief Mrs. Aduke Maina, Iyom Josephine Anenih, Achike Udenwa, Maryam Ciroma, Felix Hyat, Zainab Maina, and Chinedu Nwachukwu, who will serve as Member/Administrative Secretary.
Governor Fintiri, in his statement, expressed confidence in the committee’s capacity to deliver a transparent and credible process.
“The NCOC notes and expects that the exemplary conduct and strict adherence to the party’s rules and regulations during this very crucial assignment will justify the confidence reposed in members of the committee,” Fintiri stated.
The screening committee’s work is seen as a key step toward ensuring the integrity of the PDP’s upcoming convention, which is expected to shape the future direction of Nigeria’s main opposition party.
