In a targeted security operation, Kano State police have apprehended 51 individuals and seized various weapons and narcotics during a three-day raid on criminal hideouts across the metropolis.
The special operation, which ran from June 13-15, concentrated on high-risk areas within Kano Municipal, Dala, Gwale, and Tarauni LGAs. Police teams combed through notorious neighborhoods including Kofar Mata, Zage, Kurna, Rijiyar Lemo, Dorayi, Hotoro, and Sheka Quarters.

Police spokesperson DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, representing Commissioner CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, revealed that most detainees were youths aged 15-39 suspected of involvement in gang violence, public disturbances, and drug offenses.
This crackdown forms part of the command’s sustained campaign against the notorious ‘Yan Daba’ thuggery gangs plaguing the state.
CP Bakori specifically cautioned against the dangerous trend of weapon display during cultural events like “Gangi” performances and the glorification of arms on social media platforms including TikTok, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter), noting these practices lure minors into criminal behavior.
The police chief issued a strong warning that accomplices including parents shielding offenders or blacksmiths crafting illegal weapons would face legal consequences. Authorities reaffirmed their determination to uphold public safety across Kano State.
