Kano State has emerged as the leading performer in the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO), marking a historic achievement and validating the state government significant investment in educational revitalization.
The announcement, made by NECO Registrar Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi in Minna, Niger State, placed Kano at the pinnacle of academic excellence nationwide. The results revealed that a remarkable 68,159 candidates from Kano State secured five credits and above, including the crucial compulsory subjects of English Language and Mathematics.
The state performance significantly contributes to the national outlook. Out of 1,358,339 candidates who sat for the examination across Nigeria, 818,492 achieved the five-credit benchmark, representing a national pass rate of 60.26%. Kano leading result is seen as a major contributor to this overall success, setting a new standard for academic achievement in the country.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sunusi DawakinTofa, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf jubilantly credited this unprecedented success to his administration unwavering focus on education. He framed the result as direct proof that the state comprehensive reforms are yielding tangible dividends.
“Our reforms are clearly yielding results, and this outstanding performance by our students proves that Kano is on the right path,” the Governor stated.
The Governor also extended praise to all stakeholders including teachers, parents, school administrators, and community leaders for their critical role in this collective achievement. He described the result as a milestone that reflects a concerted effort beyond government policy alone.
The results, released 54 days after the final examination, have sparked widespread jubilation among students and the broader educational community in Kano. The performance is expected to serve as a catalyst for continued investment and reform, solidifying Kano position as a beacon of academic excellence and a model for other states to emulate.
