Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Ayingba, has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of one of its lecturers, Mr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, from the Department of Social Science Education.
Ibikunle reportedly died last Thursday while in the company of Miss Glory Ojochegbe, a student from the same department. The incident has sparked public curiosity and speculation, prompting the university to caution against unfounded rumours.
In a statement issued by the Registrar, Yahaya Alilu, on Friday, the management described the lecturer’s death as a “tragic and disturbing occurrence” that warrants a thorough probe by appropriate authorities.
“The university is deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle. His sudden demise in company of Miss Glory Ojochegbe Samuel (24GE2034) is a matter of great concern, and investigations are ongoing to establish the true circumstances,” the statement read.
The university also dismissed reports linking the death to another student, Miss Bello Yahaya Lubabat, of the Department of Educational Administration and Planning. The statement stressed that no other students were involved, urging the public and media to avoid spreading false information that could damage reputations.
“PAAU remains committed to truth, fairness, and justice. We appeal for restraint and responsible reportage as the investigation continues,” the statement added.
