The Lagos State Government has begun a statewide free HIV testing campaign as part of activities marking the 2025 World AIDS Day. The exercise, coordinated by the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA), will run from November 18 to December 1, 2025, across all Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
LSACA said the initiative is aimed at increasing access to HIV testing, encouraging early diagnosis and strengthening linkage to treatment for those who test positive. The agency added that the campaign also seeks to reduce stigma and promote accurate information about HIV.
Announcing the programme, LSACA’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Folakemi Animashaun, said trained counsellor-testers have been deployed statewide to provide confidential and non-judgmental services. She noted that testing remains the “gateway to prevention and treatment,” urging residents to take advantage of the free screening.
The agency is working with community-based organisations and development partners to reach underserved areas. During the exercise, residents will also receive HIV test kits, condoms, and educational materials as part of broader awareness efforts.
LSACA said the testing campaign forms a major component of Lagos State’s activities for the 2025 World AIDS Day, which is commemorated annually on December 1.
