Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has urged greater women participation in the labour movement, describing it as a vital step toward boosting women’s political involvement.
Speaking at the 6th Women’s Committee Delegates’ Conference of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Oyo State Council, held at Pensioners’ House, Agbarigo, Onireke, Ibadan, Governor Makinde — represented by his Special Adviser on Labour Matters, Barr. Bayo-Titilola Sodo — commended the NLC for integrating women into its administrative leadership.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritising workers’ welfare across the state.
In his remarks, Comrade Kayode Martins, Chairman of the Oyo State NLC, praised Governor Makinde’s pro-labour policies and urged the newly inaugurated women’s committee executives to work in unity for the progress of the union.



The newly elected chairperson, Comrade Bolanle Olumide-Lawal, in her acceptance speech, thanked the union for conducting a free, fair, and credible election, pledging to champion initiatives that will strengthen the union and advance women’s roles in the labour movement.
The event was attended by prominent stakeholders, including Comrade Olusegun Abatan, Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (Oyo State Council); Mr Festus Igbinosun, Oyo State Controller, Ministry of Labour and Employment; and Alhaji Raji Oladimeji, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, Oyo State Council.
