The highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic has encountered a major roadblock, forcing its release date to be pushed back from April to October 2025. According to reports from Puck, cited by Rolling Stone and Billboard, the movie’s current version allegedly violates a legal agreement with Jordan Chandler, who accused Michael Jackson of molestation.
The agreement, which was reached as part of a $20 million settlement, stipulates that Chandler’s name and story cannot be referenced in any project about the King of Pop. However, the biopic’s script apparently breached this agreement, particularly in its third act.
As a result, the film’s producers were caught off guard, and reshoots are now scheduled to take place in March 2025. Despite the setbacks, Billboard assures that the project is not in danger of being scrapped.
The biopic, which stars Michael’s nephew Jaafar Jackson, has been highly anticipated by fans worldwide. The delays and reshoots aim to ensure that the film meets the necessary legal requirements, providing a fitting tribute to the legendary musician.
