The Labour Party has been hit by another major defection as Hon. Nkemkanma Kama, member representing Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, formally dumped the party.
Kama, who won his seat in 2023 on the Labour Party platform, announced his resignation in a letter to the Ward Chairman of Amaze Ward, Ishiagu community, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
He explained that the decision followed wide consultations with his family, political associates and supporters, stressing that the move was taken in the best interest of his constituents.
“After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that this step is necessary for the greater good of my people,” Kama stated.
The lawmaker, however, appreciated the party for the opportunity given to him to contest and win his seat, noting the support he received from LP leaders and members during his political journey.
Although he did not immediately disclose his next political destination, strong indications point to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection comes amid deepening leadership crises within the Labour Party, which have already forced several high-profile members to jump ship.
