Multiple Casualties Reported as Bandits Launch Deadly Attack on Kebbi Community

The Journal Nigeria June 18, 2025

Suspected bandits carried out a brutal assault on Tadurga village in Kebbi State’s Zuru Local Government Area, killing numerous residents, kidnapping others, and stealing cattle in a nighttime attack.

Eyewitnesses reported that over 50 armed bandits stormed the community on Monday night. “We were startled by gunfire from all directions,” a resident Hamidu said. “People fled their homes as the attackers looted shops, murdered villagers, took hostages, and drove away our livestock.”

This marks the first major bandit attack in the Zuru Emirate region in more than two years. Local farmer, Ahmed Aliyu, expressed shock at the violence, noting: “After security improvements allowed farmers to return to their fields, we never expected this resurgence of terror.”

Authorities have yet to release official casualty figures. Repeated attempts to reach Kebbi State Police Command spokesperson CSP Nafiu Abubakar for comment were unsuccessful as at press time.

The attack represents a troubling setback for the area, which had enjoyed relative peace following government security interventions that previously enabled agricultural activities to resume.
