Muslims across Northeast Nigeria joined the global Islamic community in observing Eid-el-Kabir prayers on Friday, marking the festival that honors the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

At the Goni Muktar Mosque in Damaturu, Imam Sheikh Abdul Mutallib delivered a powerful Eid message emphasizing faith and compassion. He called on believers to uphold the oneness of Allah and extend charity to those in need, particularly in the Northeast where insurgency has left many vulnerable.

The crisis has devastated our region,” the Imam stated. “Let us increase our acts of kindness, for charity brings blessings in this life and the hereafter.”

However, the celebrations were tempered by economic hardships. Damaturu resident Ibrahim Umar expressed mixed feelings: “We rejoice in this holy day, we also pray that Allah should show us another year ahead and a better Nigeria.

The struggle was echoed in Maiduguri, where Aisha Mohammed shared her family’s plight: “My husband couldn’t perform the sacrifice. Still, we pray for Nigeria’s prosperity and better days ahead for all citizens.”

The observance highlighted both the enduring faith of Northeast Muslims and the pressing need for recovery in the conflict-affected region.
