As part of its commitment to improving education in Northeast Nigeria, the North East Development Commission (NEDC) has launched an initiative to train 600 teachers in Yobe State. This effort aims to enhance the region’s education system, particularly in the aftermath of insurgency, with a focus on Damaturu, the state capital.
The program, titled ‘Enhancing Basic Education Through Effective Teaching and Learning’, seeks to build educators’ capacity for better learning outcomes.
Yobe State’s Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Abba Idriss Adam, highlighted that the program targets critical gaps in the education sector by introducing evidence-based, learner-focused, and technology-integrated teaching methods.
He praised the NEDC for its consistent support, noting that the Commission has emerged as a key partner in revitalizing and advancing education in the Northeast, particularly in Yobe.
During the opening ceremony, the NEDC’s Managing Director, Mohammed Goni Alkali, represented by the State Coordinator, Prof. Ali Ibrahim Abbas, reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to assisting Yobe and other states in the region. He mentioned that the 600 participants would be trained across the state’s three senatorial zones, aligning with the government’s educational goals.

Prof. Musa Alabe, Lead Consultant from Xascony Engineering, encouraged participants to fully engage in the training, calling it a valuable opportunity to expand their expertise. He assured them that skilled facilitators were on hand to deliver high-quality instruction.

This initiative reflects the NEDC’s ongoing commitment to elevating teaching standards and fostering better educational outcomes in basic and secondary schools.
