Nigeria to Face South Africa as Ghana Battle Morocco in WAFCON Semi-Finals

The Journal Nigeria July 19, 2025

The Super Falcons will by 6pm on Tuesday meet South Africa in one semi-final after a decisive 5–0 win over Zambia.

Goals from Osinachi Ohale, Esther Okoronkwo, Chinwendu Ihezuo, Oluwatosin Demehin, and Folashade Ijamilusi secured Nigeria’s spot in the semi-finals.

South Africa booked their semi-final place by edging Senegal on penalties. After a goalless 120 minutes, Banyana Banyana triumphed 4–1 in the shootout, thanks to goalkeeper Andile Dlamini’s two crucial saves. The South Africans now await their clash with Nigeria.

In the other semi-final, Ghana will on the same day and time face a formidable opponent in Morocco.

Both semi-finals—a showdown between the continent’s giants and emerging powerhouses—promise high drama and showcase the rising standards of African women’s football.
