President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the rule of law, declaring unequivocally that no individual, regardless of their status or political influence, is above the law.
The President made the statement on Monday while inaugurating a workshop for justices and judges organized jointly by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Judicial Institute (NJI) in Abuja.
Addressing participants, President Tinubu stressed that a corruption-free Nigeria is achievable if every citizen, especially those in positions of authority, acts with integrity and accountability within their spheres of influence. He urged the judiciary to maintain steadfast impartiality, independence, and incorruptibility, warning that societal decay begins when those entrusted with interpreting the law compromise their responsibilities.
“The Federal Government under my watch will ensure that no one is above the law. Our moral distinction as a people stems from the judiciary, and we owe it the reverence and autonomy to remain the last sanctuary of our collective conscience,” the President said.
Tinubu also acknowledged public concern over judicial decisions in high-profile corruption cases, noting that some rulings have created the perception that justice is being subverted. He emphasized that the government and citizens alike must respect the autonomy of the judiciary to maintain trust in the legal system.
The workshop, which brought together judges and justices from across the country, was aimed at strengthening judicial capacity, promoting ethical standards, and fostering effective enforcement of financial and criminal laws.
The President’s remarks highlight his administration’s focus on combating corruption, reinforcing accountability, and ensuring that legal principles apply equally to all citizens, regardless of status or political affiliation.
