Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has lauded Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal for his transformative leadership, citing significant progress in the state’s infrastructure and healthcare.

During a visit on Tuesday, Obasanjo inaugurated the upgraded Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital and two major road projects in Gusau, Zamfara’s capital. According to Sulaiman Bala Idris, the governor’s spokesperson, the hospital now boasts a CT scan and MRI machine a first for the state.

At the event, Obasanjo urged Governor Lawal to sustain his “rescue mission,” expressing optimism that Zamfara could become one of Nigeria’s leading states under his administration.

“Today, I witness a revitalized Zamfara under your leadership,” Obasanjo remarked. “I’m particularly impressed by the CT scan and MRI facilities here, equipment even some teaching hospitals lack. This is commendable progress.”

He praised the hospital’s modernization, stating, “It gives me great joy to commission this facility, which will undoubtedly enhance healthcare delivery for the people.”

While inaugurating the Zannah-Abarma Road, Obasanjo described Lawal’s efforts as “a step toward making Zamfara a modern state.” He pledged his support, urging the governor to “continue this trajectory throughout your tenure.”

In response, Governor Lawal thanked Obasanjo for his visit, calling Zamfara “your second home.” He detailed the hospital’s upgrades, including new residential quarters for doctors, a radiology complex, and state-of-the-art medical equipment across 14 departments.

“This hospital is now equipped to serve as a referral center, training hub, and research facility,”Lawal said. “We’ve prioritized infrastructure and cutting-edge technology to meet global healthcare standards.”

The event also featured the commissioning of the Tsalha Bungudu-Kwanar Birnin Ruwa Road, further showcasing the state’s infrastructural advancements.
